Premium Shavings

Our shavings are sourced as a byproduct from local mills. Instead of ending up as waste in landfills, we process these shavings for sustainable use in agriculture, landscaping, and composting. The shavings are a uniform product that are compressed into 4x4 bales in totes for easy handling and shipping.

  • Our premium shaving is ideal bedding for a wide variety of bedding applications, especially horses, cattle and broiler barns. Here are a few advantages of our product:

    1. Product is sterile and therefore does not introduce contaminates such as larva or microbes into closed barns.

    2. Easy clean out. The shavings don't stick to floors.

    3. Easy to handle bags for quick application which reduces labour.

    4. The large bags can be stored and keep the shavings protected from the outside environment.

    5. Very absorbent and also re-dries quickly.

    6. The premium shavings can contain up to 25% sawdust fines and increase absorbency significantly. 

      Barn Coverage using 1 bag:

      • 1 inch depth covers 2,500 sq. ft. (232 sq. meters)

      • 2 inch depth covers 1,250 sq. ft. (116 sq. meters)

      • 4 inch depth covers 625 sq. ft. (58 sq. meters)

  • Wood fibre has been shown to provide excellent insulation properties and durability. Using shavings to prolong the life of winter ice roads is proving to be very effective. In addition, our bulk bags create less waste and allow for higher volume of fibre to be transported into northern areas.

Sawdust Fines

Our sawdust is screened to get uniform and consistent sizing. The sawdust is then compressed into 4x4 bales in totes for convenient shipping and storage.

  • Works well with blower applications for dairy barns.

  • Excellent for down hole use as all large diameter material has been removed.

  • Packaging is high quality and protects the fines from harsh environmental elements.

  • Our premium shavings and sawdust fines make excellent sources of fibre for mixing off waste sludge, oil, water and drill cuttings. The low moisture content of our fibre (usually in the 8 percent range) results in high absorbency. This results in less product needed and less product having to be transported at the back end giving financial savings on all fronts. 

    Our sawdust is a very consistent and low moisture product. Laboratory and on-site tests have consistently shown that our sawdust will absorb over 2 times the liquid that regular dry shavings of a similar moisture content will.

     

  • Sawdust is a valuable addition to any garden, offering multiple benefits. As an effective mulch, it suppresses weeds by blocking sunlight and maintains a tidy appearance while reducing competition for nutrients. It also retains soil moisture, cutting down on watering needs, especially in hot climates, by slowing evaporation. Over time, decomposing sawdust enriches soil with organic matter, improving texture and fertility, particularly in clay or sandy soils.

Disclaimer: Our SPF shavings are sourced from mills that mainly process spruce, pine, and fir. From time to time, these mills may also run cedar on shared equipment. While every effort is made to minimize cross-contamination, small trace amounts of cedar may be present .
